Ben Carter

Not content with one challenge, Ben took on five. He completed Dalby’s Inferno, Endure24, York 10k, the Great North Run before finishing with his first marathon, The Yorkshire Marathon, on 16th October.

His target was £1000 but his amazing supporters helped him raise an amazing £3500, making him our highest individual fundraiser in 2022.  Take a look at his story on his JustGiving page and check out his interview held before event four to find out about his motivation.

Dunnington Primary School Staff

Dunnington Primary school community have always held the Hughes Family in their hearts and the support we have received from school staff past and present has been beyond wonderful.

They set themselves the challenge to collectively run or walk all the way from Land’s End to John O’Groats (1,083 miles) and raised over £1400 in the process, tracking their progress as part of a virtual Conqueror Challenge

Walker Crips

A team from the York office of investment advice company, Walker Crips, took on the Wharfedale Ton, a 100-mile cycling event, in sweltering temperatures on June 17th, raising £730 in just a few days of fundraising, smashing their £200 target!

Jan Screeton

Soon after hearing the story of the Hughes Family and the work of OSCAR’s, Jan decided she wanted to do something to fundraise. In her own words, being “built for comfort not for speed” she didn’t want to take on a run or a cycle or similar and decided to take on the equally daunting challenge of shedding pounds for a sponsored slim.

Jan raised over £260 with support from friends, family and her Slimming World group.

Aaron Manton

Aaron Manton, CamperKing’s Assistant Head of Brand, competed in Staffordshire Half Iron-Man back in June alongside his friend Christian and raised £575.

You can read his story on CamperKing’s website.

Sharon Allan and her son, Matt

Diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumour last summer, Sharon Allan decided to raise money for the charity embarking on a 3-day cycle ride with her son, Matt, across the Yorkshire Wolds.

The two of them raised over £2150. Sharon is still out and about cycling with a massive smile on her face.

Team 500 Miles

Throughout January, Rob Farquharson and a group of friends cycled 500 miles each for OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity.

Between them they biked 5000 miles and raised over £1750 – almost double their original target!

Antonino Gargiulo

Antonino, a teacher at Dunnington Primary when Milo was going through treatment for his brain tumour missed out on the staff fundraising event, so decided to do his own over the first few months of 2022.

He cycled 1000 miles over 90 days adding in 9000 press-ups and sit-ups for good measure. He raised £360 for OSCARs along with another £200 for another charity close to his heart.

Wilberforce House - Pocklington School

Wilberforce House at Pocklington School nominated us as their 2021-22 Charity of the Year. Charity Week at the end of March saw the whole school carry out school fetes, sports events and staff gunging helping to raise funds. These were added to Wilberforce House’s car wash in the snow earlier in the year, as well as proceeds from the whole school summer non-uniform day

We are very grateful to all the staff and pupils for their support and the total of nearly £1500 raised was utterly spectacular!

Beverley School

Beverley High School thought of others at Christmas and donated £250 as a result of a charity Christmas Jumper Day. A simple but fantastic way of raising a great amount of money for us.

Cuthbert College, Hummersknott Academy, Darlington

Over £630 was raised by Cuthbert College at Hummersknott Academy by selling hot dogs, cakes, raffle tickets and enjoying the hardship of throwing sponges at their head boy.

We were very grateful that they chose us as their charity to fundraise for.

Royal Grammar School, Worcester

Another school that fundraised for us was the Royal Grammar School in Worcester, managing to raise over £450 from their events.

It is so important to us that schools are involved – our charity was inspired by Oscar’s own fundraising efforts at his school while he was undergoing treatment. Seeing children helping other children is very inspiring.
