Our first ever OSCAR’s October took place in 2022, nine years after Oscar ran his first fundraising event while going through treatment for his brain tumour, and was an unprecedented success!

During the course of the month, individual fundraisers, business and schools helped to contribute an amazing £21,000 to the charity…and that is only so far!

Yorkshire Marathon

Yorkshire Marathon - Sunday 16th October

Five individuals and three relay teams (including Andrew Jackson Solicitors and York Health Economics Consortium) soaked up the sunshine and the atmosphere on a beautiful Autumn day as they took on the course. Between them they raised over £10,000 for the charity – an amazing effort! Many thanks to Athena HR for their sponsorship of t-shirts for the event.

Vantage Toyota Bike Ride

Vantage Toyota York Bike Ride - Wednesday 12th October

The team at Vantage Toyota York set out on a 100-mile Brid and Back charity bike ride for OSCAR’s, supported by colleagues and local businesses, raising over £2500 for the charity.

And if you are inspired by their efforts, why not get Out and About for OSCAR’s on your own sponsored bike ride. Get in touch if you decide to arrange one.

Go Orange for October

Go Orange for October

Six wonderful schools went Orange for OSCAR’s – Bishopthorpe Infants, Archbishop of York Junior School, St. Mary’s Catholic Academy, Bootham School, Wilberfoss Primary and Huntington Secondary – raising over £3000.

There were penalty shoot-outs, cake sales and raffles, Diwali dances, amazing orange outfits and even staff taking part in the Yorkshire Marathon Relay.

Our Charity Manager had the pleasure of visiting schools to meet children and staff and talk about the charity and raise awareness of brain tumours.

Your school or workplace could pledge to dress in orange, our charity colours, at any time of the year. If you are stuck for something orange to wear, we can always order you an OSCAR’s t-shirt, or point you in the direction of an orange wig or hi-vis jacket.

Curry and Quiz Night

Parvin Curry and Quiz Night - Monday 17th October

100 people quizzed, ate a three-course Indian meal, enjoyed games of stand-up/sit-down bingo as well as a raffle hosted by The Parvin Restaurant in Haxby, York – and raised £2577 while doing so.

A fun night was had by all, except those who missed out on tickets for the oversubscribed event – but don’t worry we will be doing it again so look out for when.

Thank you to FNS Photography, Finney Electrical and Yorkshire’s Finest Hampers for some of the excellent raffle prizes.

Want to organise a different OSCAR's event?

No need to wait until next October!

Other ideas could include a charity football match, sponsored dog walk, trampolining marathon or Christmas Jumper Day. It doesn’t matter if you are raising money!

These are just a few ideas: you can also choose to buy your own place in any sporting event and raise funds for OSCAR’s PBTC or organise your own – you will receive our support whatever you choose.
